Great Experience and Challenge

Pros

Innovative products with quality components that were engineered to a level that was unsurpassed in the industry. Passionate people that were bold enough to go a different direction with the market approach. Consistent long term vision with staff, product, and distribution; decisions based on long term implications not quarterly earnings. A true performance leader in every sense of the term. Initially started in territory sales and was promoted several times. The training provided at each level was incredible, very supportive of individual development and growth. Solid staff with a management team and owner/family in Germany that cared about the individual. Even with thousands of employees, it felt like a Festool family. In the US (and Canada) I am proud to have been part of a company that rose from obscurity to a major player in the marketplace, changing an industry sector along the way. Many of us have career highlights that we draw upon based on our experience at Festool.

Cons

A trend to stray from core competencies and culture began to emerge. Speed to opportunity in the marketplace was slowing.

Pros

Fantastic brand with raving fans Fantastic products that are expensive, but very convincing, hence highly differentiated. Highly guarded brand equity program: virtually no discounts and the products cost the same wherever you buy them

Cons

Most managers are with the company forever and have never seen anything else => intellectual incest As a consequence you have an ‘old boys network’: breeding ground for favoritism and cronyism The owner family has opinions- and nobody can challenge them without risking their job- but maybe that’s just the story that the ‘old boys’ tell you to justify dubious or irrational decisions (‘ the owners want that’)

Pros

US based employee, the company has a great culture and a great vision. Premium employer with a premium brand.

Cons

Mid-size company transitioning from a small company. Fast growth in revenue/sales, slow growth in FTEs to support.
