Pros

I worked with a great group of people at a remote location. It had more of a family type feel to it. Everyone knew each other, hung out after hours and the Christmas parties we're a blast!

Cons

Upper management was so clueless (IT department). It never seemed like we knew much of what was going on, had any type of goal or concept of what should happen next. Not to mention dealing with the union workers...

Pros

The workload is there, especially if you like being busy. In addition, in IT at least, the job feels quite stable.

Cons

Where do I start? Managers are very good at creating an unintentionally toxic environment. They don't understand the needs of their employees, and don't seem to have any desire to begin understanding. On top of that, no one knows what anyone else is doing. We don't know or have visibility into most of our networks, and we don't even know what devices that most of our critical applications are running off of. It's a disorganized mess.

Pros

Upper management was great. The morale was very good. The company was never bleeding-edge technology but close to it and you had a chance to learn. Most of management was promoted from within so there was a career path.

Cons

Upper management was great until the middle of 2014 when the company brought in people from the outside who had grandiose ideas of how to make things work. They started by shutting us out of future plans. Then they cut about three-quarters of the IT staff and outsourced the work to offshore personnel and a local company. Some of the remaining IT staff were moved to positions that they had no experience in and their past experience and knowledge is being wasted.
