Pros

Extraco is a large enough bank that there is opportunity for career advancement if you are an entry-level employee. Extraco offers reasonably comprehensive benefits to its employees, and there are many generally good, caring people employed there.

Cons

Extraco has a corporate culture which results in a lack of concern for the well-being of its employees and its customers. With regard to both, making money trumps integrity and fairness. An arrogance fostered at the senior levels results in a culture where the opinions of employees are not valued unless they are parroting the company talking points. A dictatorial management style is practiced and encouraged by senior management, stifling any feedback or open dialogue about corporate weaknesses. The culture results in an atmosphere where trusting your co-workers becomes a risky gamble.

Great Benefits, No Opportunity

Pros

Extraco has a great benefit package. They pay the full amount for a single person's health plan. They also pay for life insurance and short-term and long-term disability insurance. They have a tuition assistance program but you have to be approved if it's for a master's program. The culture used to be very family oriented but they've gotten away from that. The employees were very sweet to work with and treated you like family.

Cons

They don't contribute much to your 401k, just .25 for every dollar up to 6% of your salary. The promotion opportunities aren't great. They definately follow the good ol boy banking philosophy and favor male employees. It's a great place to work if you have no desire to ever be promoted.

Discriminatory Practices

Pros

A turkey or ham at Christmas

Cons

Women have no chance of promotion. There is age and appearance discrimination coming from top levels of the company. Women are required to wear hosiery between September and May. You would think it was 1959.
