Pros
Unfortunately, this organisation is not one I can recommend due to several significant issues that negatively impacted my experience as an employee.
Expertise Events is a company that suffers greatly from nepotism, with the key position of Managing Director being held by an individual who lacks the necessary qualifications and experience required for effective leadership. This has resulted in a toxic work environment where guidance is virtually nonexistent, and management is both ineffective and dismissive of employees' needs and concerns, least of all their opinions.
The staff at Expertise Events are competent and capable, but they are treated poorly and often feel powerless to stand up for themselves out of fear of passive aggressive back lash, gas lighting, and termination. There is a glaring lack of self-awareness and a refusal to admit or learn from mistakes, leading to a culture where management says one thing and doing another is the norm, making you feel constantly gas lite and mind-scrambled.
Great ideas are rarely voiced, as they are immediately shot down by management, leaving employees feeling as though they can’t do anything right. This culture of intimidation is perpetuated by the leadership, particularly the owner and his son, who engage in bullying behavior and prefer to blame and deflect rather than support and encourage their staff. The company’s leadership demonstrated a complete inability to recognise or address their own shortcomings, frequently shifting blame onto employees for their own mistakes. This lack of accountability and refusal to listen to staff feedback made it impossible to perform any task effectively, let alone thrive.
Despite their own admissions of being progressive and forward-thinking, Expertise Events operates with an extremely outdated mindset, refusing to evolve or modernise their approach not only to events management, but also to their internal processes, case point their own antiquated offices, branding and website, "1990 called and wants their events company back" springs to mind.
My time at Expertise Events was marred by an environment that was not conducive to success. The company’s toxic culture comes directly from management itself, with poor task instructions, and a lack of direction making it a deeply challenging place to work. I would strongly caution anyone considering employment there if they value their own integrity and quality of work, least of all their mental health.
Cons
The staff are lovely and fun to work with - shame the management doesn't value them.
