Pros

Clean office International client base for a Scottish agency

Cons

The hiring process was a complete disgrace. Taking 7 months from the first interview to start date with barely any correspondence. Regimented scheduling. Every hour is timed down by a scheduling team which has to be obeyed strictly. Therefore there is no autonomy and value to tasks is unweighted. Inflexible working environment. Policy against taking doctors appointments during 9am-5.30pm. Very corporate for a digital agency. Numbers and targets focused, which have to be presented. Organised fun. Clocking in and out etc. Massive focus on hourly billing of clients. Monthly team meeting held over lunch hour (employees own time) to avoid cutting into work time. Strange atmosphere in the office. Almost like speaking can be seen as taboo at times, especially at the start of the week. At points you could hear a pin drop in a room that has 60 people in it. Management cold yet takes professional decisions very personally. General humour that I experienced was very sexual based, often inappropriate and uncomfortable. Low salary. No benefits at all really. Most industry standard benefits would include private healthcare etc. This isn’t the case at Equator. The only benefit is the gym membership where the provider is a client.

Pros

The people tend to be great, it looks impressive on your CV, you learn a lot and it's close to the city centre.

Cons

You'll notice that for every negative review here, there's a positive one that advises management to keep telling people "the good that we're doing". It's like clockwork. I found working in Equator profoundly difficult and lonely. I imagine if you're in with the cliques, you have a much better experience here but when they discuss their "culture" what they mean is you need to be a specific type of person (not shy or quiet, heaven forbid) and if you're not, you'll be ostracised. For a workplace that prides itself on inclusivity, anybody who is remotely neurodivergent isn't supported. It's not possible. They're very client-centric and ongoing support in the job isn't given. The work is tough and gruelling but you do learn a lot. Once I left, however, I discovered that I hadn't been taught marketing but specifically the ways they did it which would be fine if these ways weren't incredibly outdated or if they were up for discussion which they never were. It's a real high school environment and the best thing I did was leave.

Pros

Some of the employees are nice

Cons

Incredibly high stress Very cliquey in tribes (particularly tribe xl) Account management put on pedestal Expected to work overtime for free Only allowed half an hour 'unproductive time' (including internal meetings and tea breaks) Focused on 20-20-20 brand vision, not on people
