Pros
In the 4 years I spent working at eporta these were some of my top pro's: 1. Amazing Leadership I joined eporta because I was looking for a great team that I could really trust and learn from. I remember early on Aneeqa (founder) said to me one of the truest things I've heard someone say about management: "people always think they'll be good managers because they've had bad managers in the past, so they know what not to do, but actually you learn way more from having amazing managers who show you what to do". She was the best example of this for me. She always took time for me and never shied away from giving me difficult feedback that I needed to hear. 2. A learning culture. No blame no shame. Everyone in the team loves learning. There are so many different hobbies and interests and I think that translates to an amazing attitude in the team of seeing the whole process of building a company as something exciting and fascinating with so many opportunities for learning. Challenges are seen as opportunities to grow and mistakes are accepted, and used to make better decisions in future. 3. Diversity While the hiring process is pretty rigorous now to make sure that everyone in the team is a good cultural fit, i.e. shares some of the same values, can communicate well, can take onboard feedback, is a learner, etc. there is a lot of diversity in the team. People are from all sorts of backgrounds and with all sorts of interests and generally are very different characters. More importantly I feel like these differences are actually really valued and embraced, which makes it a way more interesting place to work, and in my opinion more successful.
Cons
You will get a lot, and you will also give a lot. It's an intense place to work and you'll be thrown in the deep end. It's a fast growing, very ambitious company, and being part of that environment means putting pressure on yourself, and feeling the collective need to think fast, execute and deliver. I left in the end to follow some totally different passions not in the start-up world. My advice would be to make sure you really think through what you want and then be honest about it in the interview. If you're honest about where you're at and what skills you have / what you want to learn, then I trust the team to know if you'd be a good fit and whether you'll be happy there!
