Pros
There are some brilliant and bright people working at Metro and you can tell reporters are passionate about what they do. Journalists are afforded a high degree of autonomy and flexibility. If you fancy writing a one-off travel article one week and then a lifestyle piece the next, you're able to do so while still working on your own desk. Senior management are receptive to new ideas and, in my experience, are willing to listen to people's problems and endeavour to help find solutions. It's also incredibly refreshing to see a national publication so dedicated to giving a platform to marginalised voices, particularly in the current political climate.
Cons
The pay is pretty low, particularly for a job that demands you be in the office in central London since they shut down their previous approach to flexible working.
