Pros
Remember perks should be little extras that exist to sweeten an already good situation, not consolation prizes to make up for an overall mediocre work environment. Fair compensation, meaningful work, regular feedback, ethical leadership and opportunities for career advancement will always trump free dry cleaning.
Cons
Underpaying employees. Business owners, executives and sales people are outside impression guys. Perception is not reality. Bribes don't motivate. The short-sighted solution to improving worker engagement has been to focus on making employees happy. Management obsesses about the best ways to incentivize employees with perks and benefits to make them feel good at work while overlooking obvious fixes like fair compensation, being valued as an employee and being trusted.
