Pros

Good benefits, it is a fully remote company

Cons

Most managers are terrible at Yelp. A lot of inexperienced managers were hired in recent years with no idea how to lead. Total chaos and lack of vision and direction from them. WLB is almost non existent in some teams. Compensations were reduced in an environment that everything is getting more expensive. Stupid leveling system, that just takes away from engineers productivity and puts unnecessary pressure on them. Lack of transparency is a company wide culture.

We appreciate your feedback, and we are so sorry to hear that your experience on our team was anything less than what you had hoped for. We pride ourselves on promoting from within, and as a result we give some leaders the opportunity to do so for the first time in their career. With that being said, we value training for all of our employees, including our managers, so training and coaching is an ongoing part of their career at Yelp. We strive to create a consistent and positive leadership experience across the board, and we will pass along your feedback to our leadership team. In addition, we strive to offer world-class benefits to our employees and focus on total compensation. This includes stock incentives, cash bonuses, 401(k) matching, and employer-paid insurance to name a few. All told, our compensation package is based on what our employees value most - total rewards. Thank you again for your feedback.

Pros

If you love your city, it can be very fun. Remote work is helpful and you'll make great relationships with fellow community managers, who are typically wonderful people.

Cons

As others have said, upper management is extremely out of touch with reality, including the realities of small businesses post-COVID. Pay is very under market for the level of work. Values are consistently preached but only selectively honored.

Thanks for sharing your experience after spending so many years on our team. We agree that connecting with your city and working alongside wonderful fellow Community Managers are some of the best parts of the role. We're also glad remote work was helpful for you. Favoritism and gossip don't align with the environment we want to create. We want everyone to feel valued and supported as a person. We also want to uplift team members who want to explore roles in other departments. We have many amazing opportunities across Yelp, and we encourage people to pursue the work they care about most. Your feedback helps us grow, and we will share your notes with our leadership team so we can keep making Yelp a better place to work. Thanks for all your hard work over the years, and we wish you the very best in your next role.
