Cons

Working in this position was one of the worst experiences of my life. I have had many jobs in public service. I value public libraries and believe in there magic and the assistance they lend to communities. Majority of people in the county were quite unkind. The staff were rude with the exception of one of the branches and a few staff members. One branch in particular made it impossible to work without constant anxiety. They treated me terribly, organized break ins to stress me out, gossiped to patrons about me, and behaved in a very disrespectful manner over all. They took advantage of any miss-step and made sure I felt terrible and responsible for every little thing. I would hold meetings trying to turn around bad behaviour but it always went back to the day to day horror. I was not trained properly, the book keeping and office was in a big mess when I took over. I could never get tangible assistance on anything, I always felt like I was flailing. When I just wanted to do a good job and be of service to the community. The board was difficult to work with and mostly absent. I wish they could've put more effort into their roles. I never got feedback for anything. In the end I was fired without warning and pushed out of the building. It was traumatic. I was told all this was normal, which was debilitating. How can it be normal to fire someone out of nowhere with zero warning?
