Pros

Work from home. Flexible hours, but inconsistent.

Cons

I've worked at this for a position year now. When I started I was making around $10/hr...now it is down to $8.50-9.00. Where else could you work for a year and see your paycheck DECREASE 10-15%? When I started they were paying $0.60 for "done" Survey...now it is $0.45-0.50. If you get an answering machine they used to pay $0.10, now it is $0.07. You used to be able to get a "bonus" if you completed 104 surveys in a week...now it is 130 surveys so basically they eliminated the bonus. Not really worth it, when Target is paying $11 to start and you don't have to jump through hoops. To get hired you for rent Surveyor you have to study a 50 page detailed manual and then pass a 44 question test. You will spend days studying just to get hired. SMH. The other negative is that you have to spen your entire day lying. They call it "playing a role" but it really is lying. When you call apartment complexes you have to pretend you are looking for an apartment...even though you don't live there. This requires even more elaborate lies just to make your weekly quota. If you say you are taking a survey, they will terminate you.

Pros

All the perks that come from being able to work from home.

Cons

This job is easy yet impossible. Apartment rental offices do not want to give info to a surveyor because they view it as a waste of their time, so you must "represent" yourself as an interested renter. You gather normal info like rent, deposit, specials, etc., but things get difficult when you ask for the management company name and how long they've managed the building. The misrepresentation really gets old when some offices begin to see through your facade, especially when you have to ask for multiple bedroom sizes and floorplans. As they catch on, your job becomes harder and they become more irritated and less willing to give you the info you need. Then, as you are not able to complete the property info forms and the end of the surveying season gets near, the company starts pressuring you to do so. In the end, its an easy enough job if you can deal with the aforementioned circumstances. I enjoyed calling around the country, "meeting" friendly apartment staff, and gathering info that was at times even interesting. I just got sick and tired of lying.
