Pros

Strong Compensation and Benefits: Employees frequently rate the company's compensation and benefits highly. This includes a competitive combination of pay, stock, and equity, as well as good health and dental plans. Positive Work-Life Balance: Many employees report a great work-life balance and a relaxed work environment. A significant portion of the staff works 8 hours or less per day, and a majority are happy with their work-life balance. Collaborative and Supportive Team: The culture is often described as positive, with employees enjoying their interactions with coworkers. There is a sense of teamwork and a willingness to help each other out. Large-Scale Experience: Yahoo is a large organization that operates at a massive scale, especially with its ad technology, finance, and sports products. This provides a great opportunity to gain experience in large-scale systems, which can be beneficial for future career moves. Good Perks: The company offers various perks, such as free food on certain days, and has a positive reputation for its onboarding process.

Cons

Politics and Lack of Recognition: A number of employees feel that the company is overly political. Some also feel that their work goes unrecognized, leading to a lack of motivation. Outdated Technology: The company is seen as having some outdated technology and a tendency for cost-cutting, which can lead to offshoring and a slower pace of development in some areas.

Pros

Relatively easy to get things done for a company with such a long history. Certainly not "start up" like, but processes like resource allocation have less overhead than working at a company like Google. Pay was pretty good for the midwest. I hear they are currently pretty open to remote work. It's also not the hardest place to work.

Cons

Opportunities are limited in software engineering. Since Apollo took over, SE was viewed mostly under the lens of "what is the least we can invest here to get the job done". There used to be a really good office in Champaign with lots of very talented software engineers put together. That's gone now.
