Pros

Friendly colleagues who oftentimes want the best for the company and their team. Customer-focused environment. There’s a culture of community and giving.

Cons

This company is going through a transition. While there are more customers than in the past, there has not been an equal increase in revenue due to energy efficiency initiatives and other factors. As a result, Xcel is being conservative with compensation and is not creating new full time roles to adjust for the new workload. Instead, corporate is relying more and more on contractors and/or giving more work to its existing employees. As a result, it’s hard for contractors and interns to move into full time roles, and the full time employees are getting burnt out by the extra workload. To make matters worse, new systems are purchased “off the shelf” instead of being customized to the business. As a result, the systems don’t communicate with each other which creates the need for manual processes to be used. This bogs down employees with extra work and often creates confusion and communication issues between departments.

Pros

Standard methods, cloud infrastructure, and reliance on in house staff over contractors makes it very easy to implement safe, fast, consistent changes. You will be valued as a human and you will have a voice within this company. You can make a career here. Your coworkers and immediate leadership are all talented and intelligent individuals who actually know how to do the same work you are doing.

Cons

AI rollout and unevenly applied hybrid work made things difficult for employees with disabilities and those that lived far from office who had traditionally worked remote or for tasks that do not lend themselves well to AI overhead
