Pros

Working here made me realize that I can work anywhere, because literally any other work environment is better than this.

Cons

I have never been so personally violated in a professional environment as in this case. I was blatantly lied to during the interview regarding compensation (yearly bonus) and managerial style (micro manager). The owner of the company is a micro-manager to the highest level. He wants to personally dictate every single decision there is to make and places no trust or respect with his employees. On a daily basis I was personally disrespected. The owner complained frequently of his employees taking "no initiative" but would then say that the employees' ideas were of no value because of age or "lack of experience", despite the collective employees' experience in publishing being greater than the owner's. He is blatantly sexist, racist, ageist and makes no attempt to hide his disdain for people with less personal wealth than his own. The owner frequently made inappropriate sexual comments and visibly favored male employees, even frequently defending/supporting a male employee who verbally berated female coworkers. Aside from the personal assault that I feel affected by even a year after my last day of employment, owner expected ridiculous loyalty from employees despite no show of loyalty on his end. Employees are expected to work 9-hour days with no breaks, and when leaving their desks just to use the restroom, are asked after. Company-wide meetings were called to discuss professionalism after 20 minute trips to get coffee. Hours are ridiculous, and no suggestions or constructive criticism are accepted. Taking personal days is looked down upon. Six people quit from the same 3-person department in 3 years.
