Pros

I learned a lot about coffee and how to make it at such a high standard. Lots of fun to work next to the capital. I received a few raises while I was there, and was happy to be given more responsibilities. Made great lifelong friends, and gained a whole new connection to my community that I will always cherish. Got to taste many cool and limited edition coffees, and got to play on a fancy new machine! I’m looking at you KB90! Oh good dental coverage too!

Cons

three words: Summer. Farmers. Markets. The untamable beast. A force that can not seem to be beat. Became exhausting to manage and moral low. Upper Management was often present to manage in shops beautification and then suddenly not when needed on the floor. No blame, just a reality.

Pros

I loved my time at the Wonderstate Coffee in Madison. - The equipment is literally top of the line for Specialty Coffee. - The coffee is incredible and you get a weekly free bag. - For Madison, the pay is better than most other cafes per hour and the tips allow one to live comfortably in the city (working full time). - I grew to really appreciate the owners and the folks from production that would visit. - The food offerings and bakery are insanely good for a cafe.

Cons

- No benefits for full-time or part-time baristas. - Difficult to grow beyond a standard barista role without sacrificing most of your time on bar. - Not very much offered in terms of education from headquarters. - The shifts were set up so you might be on bar for 7 hours on one day but on the register the next day for 8 hours. This led to frustration and also fluctuation with the quality and work speed of the baristas.
