Pros
If you fit in, you will be free to stay here for many years. Maybe even get a promotion at some point.
Cons
Worked here as an editor. The salary was lower than in my postdoc. Two months in, both of my senior colleagues launched a bullying campaign against me, even though I was arguably doing a good job. The team manager only listened to their biased feedback on my work. So I got fired during the probation time without any proper justification or evaluation of my work. They also fired two other newcomers before me - within less than a year.
Everything depends on the journal, of course, but my overall feeling is that in order to thrive here, you have to be way above average at ingratiating yourself with the higher-ups and throwing your colleagues under the bus.
