Pros
My partner and I moved to Tofino 2 years ago, and we were fortunate to secure a position as the wick prior to our arrival. Little did we know that it would of been the best decision we ever made. From the owners to management right down to the team on the front line, each one of those wonderful people we had the pleasure of working with were first class. We did not just meet friend for life, it was a family, 'my wick family'. My partner and I travelled from Ireland and we have had our fair share of mishaps such as injuries which resulted in 2 months off work and a family bereavement. These circumstances were accepted with compassion, understanding and respect. For example, the company even went out of there way to help us book flights home when times were tough during such events, and for this we feel sincerely grateful. The standard of service is like nothing you will find anywhere else (5 star+), If you are genuinely interested in a career in hospitality you will gain the knowledge and skills to kick start your career from the wick, providing you have the work ethic to succeed. It is hard work, but worth it. I was a host/server at the wick, and due to my experience I am now restaurant supervisor in another 5 star hotel in Ireland. I do not think I would be as successful as I have been without my experience in Canada. Unfortunately due to visa implications my partner and I had to return to Ireland. However we plan to return within the next 2 years, and we are simply living for the days again were our office is literally on the ocean front, and we are enjoying the view of the beautiful pacific ocean and Chesterman beach. It is literally heaven on earth. As a legit hospitality professional, You would be silly to pass up any opportunities provided by this fantastic company.
Cons
I had no real issues, maybe at certain times of the year the remote location can be tough. The remote location can be classed as 'bitter sweet' in my opinion.
