Pros

* Whitbread is a great place to work if you're looking for a relaxed environment without much (any?) pressure. * The company is very open on flexible working, so working hours are quite chilled as long as progress is shown and working from home is not an issue either. * Whitbread is full of good people and everyone is very friendly, the bonus has great potential and the base salary is ok if you consider the compensation package as a whole. * There's budget for one tech conference ticket per year, which is quite generous as some of these can be over £1000. Overall I would say Whitbread is a great place if you're just starting your career, as you'll be given time to learn and grow at your own pace.

Cons

* Unchallenging tech environment, built on either dated or enterprise technologies. The company fairly recently started migrating their front end to React but there is still a lot of legacy going around. * Everything moves extremely slow, and 95% of decisions are based on revenue/commercial reasons which means tech debt is constantly pilling up. * If you're a microservices developer for Whitbread I genuinely feel sorry for you as you'll spend your days writing proxy services between the front end and the back end system which is outsourced. * Lack of technically minded people in key positions, this means that any technical improvements to the system need to be done bottom up which takes a lot of time and effort. * Overall lack of strong technical ability among staff outside of a few key people, this is partly due to the weak interview process alongside a lack of probation period. * Although the bonus has a lot of potential it is based on a very complicated set of metrics, which is their way of giving you a low bonus even though their revenue increased in comparison to last year and that's without considering the sale of Costa where they banked £3.9bn.

Pros

Good elementary development, encouraging staff and motivational individuals, good company benefits and range of roles and skills to be trained in

Cons

often shift work, inflexible working and holiday entitlement, low pay, from one extreme to the next between being underemployed and overly worked for the salary paid.
