Pros

The benefits are like none that I've had before. Generous Paid Time Off, medical/dental paid in full - there are no monthly charges to employees or immediate family members under the plan.

Cons

Very conservative company. Women wear panty hose with suits and closed-toed shoes year around - men, no facial hair or tatoos and suits with ties every day. Employees are sent home or "counseled" if it is believed their suits are not within guidlines. The suit requirement is comical considering they have a "Wells Zone" with Wii exercise games to be used by employees. Who wants to do that in heels and hose? There is prayer before meetings and there are meetings just for the sake of meeting - a waste of time. And whatever the Owner, Leo's, whim is at the time, everyone must comply. And his "yes" men are all around him kissing his ring finger all day long....it's nauseating at times...really over the top. There is no drinking on company trips - where you are also required to share rooms with other employees of the same sex (very awkward if you don't know the person well), including the "gift" of going to Amelia Island every year (unless you have the PTO available not to go). At Amelia Leo gets to have his ego stroked for 5 days. You are not allowed to check into the hotel if you are in denim. You are also told what is best to wear and "Wells appropriate" for your travel. And god forbid you bring your boyfriend/girlfriend and try to get a hotel room together....you're in trouble if they find out. Unmarried couples must sleep in separate rooms. Professionally, the management at Wells is old school. They have great properties and some real talent on their payroll but the desire to adhere to the Southern Baptist, Good-ole boy mentality has restricted some and offended many (me included). I think a long time ago Leo Wells heart was in the right place - and maybe it still is - but he loves himself so much these days that he cannot focus beyond himself and his generousity to see the bad company moral that is spreading throughout his company. Or heck....maybe he just doesn't care.

Pros

They have a great family oriented culture, great values, promotes christian values The management compensates well and bonus were before the real estate bubble burst Senior management takes the entire company on lavish trips yearly. Work relationships are very important They promote from within

Cons

Not diverse enough seems to be an old southern boys club. Senior management doesn't live up to the christian values, so its better if they don't publicly advocate it Because work relationships are very important, promotions are based on a buddy system, so if you want to move up, make sure you hang out with your managers and supervisors so that they can get to know you more. No real career path, you have to figure out other departments by yourself. Investor Services department is the most stressful environment and moving to other departments takes a while or may never happen
