Pros
Pay- You start off on minimum wage, and every six months you get a $.25 raise. In addition to that, every time the management calls you to work an unscheduled shift, or you work on a Sunday, you get an additional $1.00 per hour. That's great! Scholarships- After you work at the store for 6 months, you are eligible to apply for a scholarship to help pay for your college education. I know many people who are very happy with this opportunity. However, you must continue working for the company to maintain the scholarship. The STLs (Shift Team Leaders)- They're great. They work very very hard, and are friendly and upbeat. They'll give you a slap on the wrist when you do something wrong, but will never scream at you. The uniform- As far as uniforms go, they're not bad. Training- VERY VERY extensive training, to the point of becoming tedious. But when you actually go live, it makes a big difference to actually know what to do. Rewards- Every time you get a compliment from a customer, you get a $5 gift certificate to the store.
Cons
Breaks- You work for 3-4 hours, you DO NOT get a break. That means no bathroom, no water, just backbreaking work for 3 hours straight. Most of the time, I am scheduled for 5.5 hr shifts, where you get one 15 minute break. It's really, really hard, especially with the new car design. It requires you to unnaturally twist your body to place extremely heavy items in the cart. THE HOURS- Okay, the company is really great. But the fact is, I'm still in high school, and they could care less. I am often scheduled for 5+ shifts Friday, Saturday, Sunday, as well as 3+ shifts on Monday or Tuesday. And then, you add my extracurriculars into the mix. I am in a cardio class at school on Mondays and Wednesdays, I have Science Olympiad practice on Thursdays, and 4 hr chorus rehearsal on Wednesdays. Any free time I have is spent studying or sleeping. I have found myself taking days off from school because I make myself sick with exhaustion. I have talked to the management about this, and they will not allow me to take a weekend day off my availability. They promise to "try" to schedule me for only 2 days in a weekend, but that only happens half the time. They are okay about calling in sick or asking for days off. Usually no one says a word, but I have been yelled at. You must request a day off 2 and a half weeks in advance, which is difficult. It is even more difficult to trade shifts with someone, as they're usually not interested. So. If you are in high school and play a sport, you can forget it. Every high schooler who works here has no life and we know it. That said, at least they always schedule within your availability.
