There are some major -and I mean major- issues at this company when it comes to diversity. I don't know if "diversity theater" is a term, but it should be. No amount of diversity blog posts and pet projects can change the underlying culture. This was difficult to come to terms with and makes my blood boil.
The "cool startup" narrative is false, and it is used to justify being cheap. But hey, at least you'll get a lot of t shirts and other free plastic garbage! Maybe if they reallocate the t-shirt and sticker budget, they could bring one whole employee up to their market value.
The best part of the past year is watching leadership Pikachu face while droves of people quit. I wouldn't count on this 200 IQ big-brain leadership team to figure out why, though.
Employees have to deal with a bunch of incompetent middle managers who couldn't manage their way out of a wet paper bag. It leads to a lot of toxic behavior because tenure is too highly valued. I have never felt so disrespected and belittled. Even senior leaders seem way in over their heads to me.
On my particular team, the micromagement is severe. Highly educated and skilled people have been transformed into mindless paper pushers. It's soul crushing, and it makes you wonder why you even try to care about your job.
If I could describe the company culture in one word, it would be: panic.
I hope that the people who left are all finally getting a chance to get a good night's sleep and take care of themselves.
