Pros
Great place to work honestly no complaints
Cons
None that I can mention or think if
Pros
Flexible scheduling – Ability to choose when and how often you work, which is great for supplementing income or fitting around another job or school. Easy to get started – Onboarding and app setup are straightforward, allowing contractors to begin accepting walks relatively quickly. Variety of clients and dogs – Each day is different, which keeps the work interesting and enjoyable for animal lovers. Good option for side income – Can be worthwhile for earning extra money if you live in a busy area with high demand. App-based convenience – Walk details, directions, and client communication are centralized in the app. Minimal overhead – No need to market yourself, handle invoicing, or collect payments from clients. Independence – You are your own contractor and can decline jobs without being “scheduled” by a manager.
Cons
Inconsistent income – Availability of walks can vary significantly depending on location, time of year, and competition from other walkers. Pay structure favors the platform – A significant portion of what clients pay goes to Wag, which can feel disproportionate to the work performed. No benefits or protections – As an independent contractor, there are no benefits, sick pay, insurance, or guaranteed earnings. Limited support – Customer service can be slow or unhelpful when issues arise, especially in urgent situations. Ratings-based pressure – One unfair or inaccurate review can negatively impact access to future walks with limited ability to dispute. Last-minute cancellations – Walks can be canceled with little notice, affecting earnings and scheduling. Wear and tear – The job can be physically demanding and requires managing unpredictable dog behavior and varying home environments. Algorithm-driven access – Walk availability and visibility can feel unclear or inconsistent, making it hard to rely on steady work.
Pros
The pro of using Wag is that you get a couple dollars to keep your body moving.
Cons
Sometimes it can prove difficult to manage your own time with variabilities on these walks. In an apartment complex? +10 min to find it. Stomach wrapped harness and a nervous dog? +15 min to soothe the dog to they'll let you put it on. Excited dog home-alone without even a collar?? +15 minutes attempting different strategies to get close enough to put on the harness. Owners do not always provide poop bags. The app could be better - there are several alerts and reminders that are needlessly repetitive when you use it regularly. You have to click through the same 5 reminders before every walk to get the access information. I understand it was designed for safety, but it just adds minutes (one at a time) to your day for no reason. There doesn't seem to be any lock-screen widget for the app, so you have to unlock your phone every time you need to log a pee, poo, or check how much time is left on the walk. Wag a big chunk of the earnings. I believe it's about 40%, which is a LOT. An actor's agent only gets 20%.
