A great place to get experience and then burn out - Content Department WBEZ Employee Review

Pros

You'll get a lot of experience fairly quickly, because there aren't enough people to do the amount of work expected.

Cons

Burn out is built into the DNA of this institution. Understaffing and poor management force employees to work long hours for a penance. Everyone has so much on their plate that all thought is extinguished. There is no room to think here. The journalism suffers and the people do too.

Pros

My team was super creative and adventurous. They taught me how to use new technology and how to keep my projects organized. They had excellent communication. They pushed me to new challenges and gave great feedback. I am still encouraged by my former boss to this day, years after my internship. Editing as part of the team also improved my writing skills a lot. I grew in my courage and my dedication to my work. I really believe I had a masterclass experience in ethical journalism, and it was fun too! I can't stop saying good things about this job.

Cons

I was an intern so the downsides were things I knew going into the job. Namely, I could only work three days a week, at least in that iteration of the intern program. I had a second job so it worked out for me. I think it's probably a good thing that my major con was that I wanted to work more :)
