The CTO and head of departments recently decided to hold an awards ceremony with nominations for the worst idea of the quarter. This is the apology they offered:
It looks like we've got one thing seriously wrong: the Worst Idea in the History of Programming award. Hence, I accept a mistake where a mistake has been made: I want to announce that due to the overwhelming negative feedback, we have withdrawn the future awards and declare @engineer to be the first and last, our one and only lifetime award winner. Similar in spirit to the Ig Nobel Prize, the aim of the award was to “celebrate the unusual” and “honour the imaginative” with humour. Innovation happens when we experiment with new ideas and learn from the outcomes, especially from the unintended ones. We intended to celebrate and encourage this risk-taking start-up spirit and have a bit of humour about failures; however, feedback revealed that its perception is vastly different from our intentions.
