Good exposure to a wide variety of legal issues
Opportunity to get focused experienced in niche areas
Looks good on resume
Great as a stepping stone understanding how VLA funded matters work to get your door in at a panel firm
Cons
Unmeritorious in some areas, such as politics over skills
Your happiness at work is largely dependent on your direct manager and their manager
Union is essential
Woefully underpay their support staff
Interesting job, helping people, rewarding, no billables. Manageable work load. Everyone just acts busy. Lots of trining opportunities.
Cons
No billables are fun but if you have any issues you aren’t able to back it up with just praises you’ve received. No actual way to analyse growth and performance. Just need to go off manager vibes. If they like you you’re sorted but if they don’t, will make your life miserable. Lack of senior lawyers to provide guidance and support. Management is more concerned with the “appearance of the service” rather than anything else. Can be extremely clique. High turnover.
