Pros
-Excellent learning opportunities. You'll be forced to learn a lot about turbine networks, SCADA, and sensor data. -Culture (site dependent, your manager/coworkers can make a site very welcoming and enhance learning opportunities) -Lots of opportunities for growth/upward mobility -Job security. Techs are in high demand -GWO training is provided for all techs -Great networking opportunities. Folks in technical roles will almost always make time to chat if you want to talk about what they do and how you can get there. -Benefits. The RRSP matching is very generous.
Cons
-Culture (site dependent, managers and coworkers can hinder growth if it is in their best interest) -Wage does not increase very often. You're better off changing jobs or companies a year or two in to get a raise. -Safety culture. Everyone talks about how safe working conditions are and how safety is prioritized. This is true until you have a high workload or an upcoming deadline. Many safety tools that are used do not actually have an impact on the safety of the work, and safety is entirely dependent on the culture at a site or within a crew.
