Poor C/Director level management, and forced culture building - Anonymous employee Vertical Measures Employee Review

Pros

The owners are very nice, and seem to have good intentions. However, over the years they have repeatedly let numerous past and current C/Director level management run amok under the premise that they are "really smart" and "building the culture."

Cons

Way too many to list, but the following may sum it up best. The COO has a large and very visible framed piece of artwork on their office wall. It states "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff" which is quite odd for a role presumably responsible for all daily operations of the company, not to mention demoralizing to all their direct and indirect reports. This role is also presumably responsible for the development, design, operation, and improvement of the systems that create and deliver the firm's services. Other employees have commented on this lack of competent operational control in their Glassdoor reviews as well. There has always been big ideas and self congratulating on the operational activities, but very little actual achievement.

Pros

Top to bottom, VM was the smartest group of people I've ever worked with. People checked egos at the door, embraced feedback, and were constantly learning and improving.

Cons

Because of growth, there were always a lot of new people. As good as the overall processes were, it simply takes time to onboard new people. Frustrating at times but also a reality in a growing agency.

Pros

This is a great place if you are looking to start a career in digital marketing. After 3-5 years with Vertical Measures, most employees are either looking to or have left the company for more growth opportunities. Pros: - Allow time for you to learn the industry through training, conferences and industry reading. - Opportunities to become an industry thought leader through writing articles for the company blog and/or host webinars. - Typical agency setting with a laid back environment, drinks, team activities and company gatherings. - Flexible and generous PTO.

Cons

- The executive team lacks leadership skills and the owners are aware of this but have yet to do anything about it and provide additional training. - Processes are broken even though they will spend endless time on trying to map them. More time is spent on mapping without actually implementing any of the changes. - High turnover with employees and clients. - Company culture was a huge focus to the point that it felt forced in order to win local awards and recognition. - They easily promote employees based more on the fear of knowing someone may be unhappy rather than recognizing the skills and contributions they bring to the company. Just as quick as they will promote, they will demote and bring someone new in for a position they may have promised/discussed with you during the initial 'promotion'.
