Pros

During my brief time at Vertical Measures, I met some extremely nice and knowledgeable people who know digital marketing like the back of their hand. It doesn't surprise me that they've received as many accolades as they have. And many were more than happy to lend me a hand when I needed help with something.

Cons

I just wish one of those aforementioned helpful people could have been my supervisor. I was hired for what was supposed to be, according to the job description, an entry-level position with room for growth. Not even 3 weeks in, my supervisor admitted to me that she doesn't have time to help or train me. That would have been somewhat tolerable had it not been for the attitude and actions of this person. Petty, rude, surly, and immature are a few of the adjectives that spring to mind when I think of her. Every question I asked was met with a grunt. Every answer was loaded with impatience and obvious frustration. Every 1-on-1 had the clear implication of "I really wish I had never hired you." I was snapped at. I was scoffed at. Directions, which were rarely given, were contradictory and often scolding. I distinctly recall several occasions where I implemented the advice she gave me, only for her to turn around and tell me I did it all wrong. My attempts at trying to be better coworkers with her were shut down with cold indifference--to the point of even blatantly ignoring me in the hallway when I tried to say good morning to her one day. In my final few days there, she told me she was hiring someone with more seniority onto the team because she didn't see me as having the chops necessary to fill the position. She had "concerns" (a word I heard often) about my performance. It begs the question of why she didn't just hire a person like that in the first place, as opposed to someone who was, again, supposed to fill an entry-level position. I will own up to my mistakes. I will own up to the lapses in judgment and sloppiness I displayed while working at Vertical Measures. I clearly had some growing to do and some skills I needed to gain. What I will never excuse, however, is the unprofessional disposition this person displayed, nor will I excuse the hostile working environment she created for me while I worked under her. I will also not excuse the leadership team's failure to address her behavior and the attitude she brought into work every day. I know I wasn't the only employee she treated this way. Vertical Measures has recently been acquired, so I don't know whether this review will ever be read or remain on Glassdoor. I wish them luck, but not if they continue to turn a blind eye to workplace bullies.

Pros

Top to bottom, VM was the smartest group of people I've ever worked with. People checked egos at the door, embraced feedback, and were constantly learning and improving.

Cons

Because of growth, there were always a lot of new people. As good as the overall processes were, it simply takes time to onboard new people. Frustrating at times but also a reality in a growing agency.

Pros

This is a great place if you are looking to start a career in digital marketing. After 3-5 years with Vertical Measures, most employees are either looking to or have left the company for more growth opportunities. Pros: - Allow time for you to learn the industry through training, conferences and industry reading. - Opportunities to become an industry thought leader through writing articles for the company blog and/or host webinars. - Typical agency setting with a laid back environment, drinks, team activities and company gatherings. - Flexible and generous PTO.

Cons

- The executive team lacks leadership skills and the owners are aware of this but have yet to do anything about it and provide additional training. - Processes are broken even though they will spend endless time on trying to map them. More time is spent on mapping without actually implementing any of the changes. - High turnover with employees and clients. - Company culture was a huge focus to the point that it felt forced in order to win local awards and recognition. - They easily promote employees based more on the fear of knowing someone may be unhappy rather than recognizing the skills and contributions they bring to the company. Just as quick as they will promote, they will demote and bring someone new in for a position they may have promised/discussed with you during the initial 'promotion'.
