Pros
As with any job Verizon can be a great place, depending on your team/boss. My boss was the most down to earth person I have ever met. He got me any resource I needed to get the job done and I always felt that I could call on him if I were in a pinch. The company itself offers great benefits (especially if you are a non-smoker). I think I paid $100 a year for health insurance (one step down from a PPO). Plus the bonus amounts to around 14% of your salary if you company objectives are met. I received 90% of what the goal in that regard. Pay is good. One thing I can say are the people at Verizon are some of the nicest and congenial people I have ever worked for.
Cons
Big Ship, Changes Direction Very Slowly. Having said that it took me two weeks to get a computer (and with Windows 2000 too). Get an email address took even longer. Everything is computer automated (benefits, email address, etc.), however there aren't clear instructions on where to go to get these items. Also on the first day of work when I asked an admin. assistant for Fantastic to clean off my dusty desk, she asked me what budget I needed to use as it wasn't coming out of hers (again your results may vary). Also because of it being such a big org it is hard to get anything done that is out of scope, even if direly needed. My building (your results may vary) was nothing fancy and a little demotivating. There was no hot water and the building was in poor shape carried over from one of the bells.
