Pros
Cool office spaces (then again all tech companies do really) Mac gear Casual working environment
Cons
Where do I start? From the first week at Vend it was apparent to me that there was some serious favouritism going on here. The fact that they hire so many people based on employee referrals sounds like a good thing, but it just create high-shool style cliques. If you don't know everyone in the office who all knew each other from Auckland high schools and teenage parties, you'll have a very hard time fitting in and letting them accept you into their oh so cool 'Kiwi gangster club'. There is also serious favouritism from management. Certain people get away with murder whereas other are under the microscope all the time - and this does not correlate to performance either. The recent handling of massive redundancies was handle incredibly poorly - there were many discussions at the time around how decisions were made and the integrity of management was seriously taken into question. On that note, I have never worked for a company who sacks so many staff out of nowhere. You better like feeling like you could be axed at any time if you work at Vend. In 12 months, 5 people were sacked and walked out - bearing in mind we are talking about a team of around 12 here! The product is dreadful, and how they think they are going to take over the world and become a massive company with a POS products, which is designed only for a niche within the retail market is beyond me. It's laughable. The pay is horrendous. I now work in a role paying 15K more a year base salary and have already earned in 3 months commissions what I would have done in a whole year at Vend. The company also seems to lack serious focus - change is great, but if you don't let things have a chance to work you before switching gears you'll never get anywhere. The management in the Melbourne office is a serious problem. A particular manager is a smiling assasin. You never know where you stand - but if you like football you're all good. The culture of the Melbourne office plummeted the day that certain manager started and never bounced back. Oh and one last titbit - if you don't drink, and don't like drug use in the office at parties, you may want to look elsewhere.
