Valor Security Services

Acquired by Allied Universal

Is this your company?

The job is fairly simple, but the pay is not worth the headache. - Security Officer Valor Security Services Employee Review

Pros

It doesn't take much in order to be a trained security officer for this company. The training is fairly painless, as well as the job itself. The hours are decent depending on the times of your shift in which you applied for. The people you work with are pretty nice and easy going, and the bosses are typically understanding.

Cons

The pay is the obvious down side to this job. It's hard to make a living on $10/hour, especially when they don't let you get any overtime, no matter how badly they might need the help. The boss directly above you is usually pretty easy going, but once you go above him (Director of Security), they are all jerks and really don't seem to care about anyone but themselves. The job itself is boring and you don't really have any say or power or privileges other than to "observe and report." You are required to scan checkpoints around the premesis every hour for your entire shift, which gets really old very fast. The company is more worried about protecting themselves and not getting sued than doing what you're hired to do in the first place.

Pros

You can generally count on a reliable and somewhat flexible schedule. You may have to forfeit hours to secure an acceptable schedule, but you will still be allowed to drop down (especially if you're in school) without any real concern. You can expect your paycheck to be accurate and on time.

Cons

Where do I begin? I could write a 5 page essay on this company's failings. Firstly, management on all levels (whether it be corporate or at your local site) seems to be incompetent to the point that it's comical. The company seems dedicated to hiring illiterate, unhygienic employees who seldom last more than 6 months. Seriously, when I was first hired (worked there for over 3 years) my first assitant director was functionally illiterate. No level of degradation is too much for Valor Security when it comes to employees. Expect to have any minor benefits taken away from you whenever the company thinks it can make another dime (literally.) No sick days when you work with 10,000 people a day? The company's lack of even the slightest level of compassion for it's employees is frightening. You have no vacation unless you survive working for one year at full time and even then they will do their best to prevent you from taking it. What can I say? Valor security is like working with kindergarteners and working for sadistic thieves.
