Pros

As far as pros go, they are so desperate for employees at this point you can practically get away with whatever you want within reason. That's it though.

Cons

Where do I begin. The entire staff is very underpaid. We hire almost exclusively interns from local colleges and start them between 10-12$ and hour. I, managing two of the three departments, make under 20$ an hour with two advanced degrees. Your pay, if it does ever increase, will only increase marginally, and extremely disproportionate to the responsibilities you will have. The management are all about micromanaging. Every single employee besides the owners and a single accountant has left since I started working here less than two years ago. They claim to have about 50 employees but I can factually say that, including the owners, there are 5 of us. Turn over is extremely high. Most employees last about 3-6 months before finding another job, or quitting out of sheer frustration. Nothing is documented correctly. A vast majority of documentation that is needed to do the job simply does not exist. Instead, you will be left on your own to "figure it out" (to quote an upper management). The result of having no documentation and high turnover being projects that are 6 years or more in development never getting completed. They only do paper checks - no direct deposit. Often, you will be given your pay check and asked to with hold cashing it for one reason or another - sometimes up to 3 or 4 days. I have seen many of our clients leave but since I was hired almost two years ago we have not gained a single client. Management is not afraid to yell, loudly and aggressively, at employees. There are no managers in this software company who are tech literate. All contracts require a minimum 30 days notice to resign, and after your 1 year anniversary it will change to 45 days required notice.

Pros

At this point I really can't even list any pros except perhaps that they're so desperate for workers you could get hired on while lying through your teeth about experience.

Cons

They can barely afford to pay their employees and insist on handing out paper checks that they refuse to let you cash at their bank. During onboarding I was told payday was Friday, and by my third week I was told to not deposit my check until Monday. I barely had a chance to get onboard before a paycheck bounced, and after that I simply couldn't trust payroll. On top of that, the software development department has been a revolving door for years. The company is highly disorganized and what little documentation exists is hidden somewhere in a maze of barely-labelled filing cabinets. Management is woefully ignorant of the actual process of software development, to the extent that I have wasted hours explaining basic level software concepts, defending my work, and being forced to justify all of my predecessors' time and effort on my project instead of being productive. Management fluctuates between overbearing and completely hands-off. They are inconsistent in setting objectives and will give unrelated, unnecessary, or even conflicting instructions. I was given free reign to develop for my project with no clear deadline for demo presentations until after several weeks, when I was suddenly told to have something to present by the next day.
