Pros

The team is very competent and dedicated, and working culture has a strong focus in mutual help, continuous learning, and generally empowering the entire team to be at their best game. Hierarchy is relatively flat and everyone's voice is heard, from the intern, to the senior engineer, to the CTO. Pay is quite good for the region, and the perks are excellent -- from flexible schedules and a generous vacation policy, to the convenient central location, parking access, diverse meal options, etc. The fintech field is one of the main hubs of innovation in IT these days, and the tech stack used at Uphold is modern and exciting to work with.

Cons

Despite the genuine interest from everyone in ensuring code quality and good practices, the high pace of development sometimes leads the time allocated for stabilization, documentation and tackling technical debt to be less than ideal. Same could be said of the open source efforts, which do exist and could attract talent to the company if they were nurtured adequately.

Pros

Friendly and welcoming team that makes you feel comfortable from day one. Supportive colleagues who are always willing to help. Fast-paced environment with plenty of opportunities to learn. Strong culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Cons

The onboarding process could be more structured, with a clearer roadmap and timeline. More involvement from HR during onboarding, particularly regarding benefits and company policies, would help employees get up to speed faster. Some information is spread across different resources, which can make it challenging to find everything needed during the first few weeks.

Pros

Free Lunch Nice office Unlimited sick days and PTO

Cons

I worked in the FIU team and unfortunately had a very negative experience with the workplace culture. While the role itself had learning opportunities, the behavior of certain senior staff members was deeply disappointing. During the company Christmas party, the MRLO and other staff members openly mocked me in front of colleagues. What should have been a team-building and celebratory event turned into an uncomfortable and humiliating experience. There was a clear lack of professionalism and basic respect. A healthy workplace depends on leadership setting the tone. When senior team members engage in this kind of behavior, it creates an environment where employees feel unsupported and undervalued. It significantly impacted my morale and overall perception of the company. I would strongly encourage leadership to reflect on how workplace culture is being shaped, particularly within FIU, and ensure that all employees are treated with dignity and respect.
