Pros
Being faculty at US is the most challenging and rewarding job I've ever had. I've learned a great deal and felt motivated to do my best work. I have a real connection with my students, and we've accomplished a lot together.
Cons
US does not know the meaning of "work-life balance" - a fact which everyone in administration readily admits. Faculty are expected to be available nights and weekends for menial duties unrelated to teaching. When you are asked to put in extra hours, there is no saying "no." When most faculty do the math, they experience the unpleasant realization that, hour for hour, they make minimum wage or less. Any attempt to push back against this always-on-call system is met with insinuations that you do not work hard enough.
