Pros
From a conceptual perspective Altum "in theory" would be a could place to work due to the opportunities to treat a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and improve your technical skills as a therapist
Cons
Altum's organization and operations is poorly executive and managed. The managers lack the skills and ability to engage their staff resulting in a high turnover of clinicians. Some of the managers do not hide their favouritism towards specific staff, despite their lack of experience and knowledge. Despite the opportunities for learning the ability to actually learn new skills is difficult given the high case load. You are basically set up for failure from the very begging with little training and high expectations that are typically beyond what one is capable of doing. There have been numerous complaints about unprofessional staff, managers and poor working conditions, but is wasn't until they had approximately 11 therapist quite in a 3 month period that they decided to actually pay attention. It is also important to know that despite being affiliated with UHN they have a separate HR department and are not necessarily tied to all the initiatives and incentives that occur in the hospital. There is a significant difference between working at Altum Health and the other hospitals so if you are considering working here I suggest you ask a lot of questions up front.
