Pros

The clients will become your life long additional family. The daily interactions with them you have shows them compassion and care and provides a familiar support that many of them do not have. It allows them to open up to care about you, just the pure happiness you see on their faces when you show up every morning is truly the best part of the job.

Cons

The pay is absolutely the worst for the services you provide for the clients. Any other company and/or state starts you out at $3-5 higher on the hour for new and/or inexperienced hires. The higher ups will manipulate, bully, and threaten you with be termination if you complain or request/call off . They will leave you on shift for 19hours or more all while you have children waiting at home with a sitter or family member. They do not do their jobs by calling for other stuff to come and the very few times they do actually call for relief, well that’s when the threats of termination come in to play and the manipulation. They do not by any means value the Behavioral Health Technicians and the many Lead BHT’s can be just as awful to the staff working in the clients homes. The company will literally hire anyone to go provide care and support in the client homes and the new staff have been known to steal from them, bring outside individuals into their homes after they’re in bed, do drugs while working, neglect their needs and even verbally/physically mistreat them. The company does not care about their clients, they strictly profitable money makers.

Pros

1) Pretty accommodating with work-life balance. Understanding with out-of-work issues. 2) Easy, low stress job where nearly every mistake, whether clerical or technological, can be fixed. 3) Co-workers were mostly nice and easy to get along with. 4) Company is accommodating with job choice and placement within the company, if requested formally. 5) Pretty fulfilling job if you work in your chosen department. 6) Good benefits package with good variety of employee perks. 7) Surprisingly highly technological for a HC non-profit. Complete with share drives and a company Google Drive and e-mail account. Very interconnected and easily accessible system of different clinics, departments and regions within the state of WV. 8) The WVU Medicine takeover started to bring a little more structure to the cons I listed below.

Cons

1) Pay is decent, but not very competitive. One could take a case manager position elsewhere for another HC company and make nearly twice as much as I made here. 2) Laissez-faire attitude toward tardiness and attendance. Being able to call off for theoretically anything is a detriment to the company and the workers. The employees that came to work and actually did their jobs (like myself) were the ones typically picking up the slack. 3) Not always very consistent with continuity of care or standards of care. For example, company executives with little-to-no clinical experience forcing our unit to admit severely physically and neurologically disabled people that we had no business treating. 4) The clients WILL try to sleep with you. It WILL happen to you if you work in a clinical setting with this company. It happened to me several times. I did not partake and I didn’t leave for that reason, but many others have. Constant vigilance and steadfastness are required in the clinical setting with this company. 5) WVU Medicine brought more regulations into the company during and after the takeover. I left right before the takeover was fully complete, so I can’t speak to all of the changes. This could also be considered a pro (see number 8 above).
