Pros

Great PTO Healthcare Mission Great Location to work Telework Policy

Cons

I believe the organization as a whole is a good place to work, but stay clear of the development department. Senior leadership is terrible. They love to give pre written speeches on team building and team bonding, but never actually try to get to know there staff. When you are smart and know your job instead of using your strength to better the department they look at you as a threat and try to push you by if you call them out on their poor decisions. No-one is promoted for doing good work.. you are promoted if you are best friends with the CDO and VP's. They do lay offs every year and half and call it " redirecting resources". The departments that get hit the hardest are Programs, Operations, sometimes development. The HR department is a pointless department. Staff members are scared to voice their concerns to HR because the HR department always backs the managers (VP's/ Directors) without doing proper investigation to get the full story. So your complaint gets back to your manager and in return they find ways to push you out. They do this by micro-managing you and literally reporting to HR all your mistakes even if its something simple as emailing a team member back a day late... (literally happened to many colleagues of mine) They will continue to do this process until you either quit or they have enough "mistakes" to fire you. The work they do is amazing work and if you really want to join this organization go to the Finance, Operations, or Program department, but STAY CLEAR OF DEVELOPMENT!! Its the most toxic work environment I have ever worked in and no-one is valued for the many hours they work each week, oo except for the best buddies of the VP's and CDO's. Senior Leadership, Toxic Workplace, Incompetent Managers, HR Department, Lack of Diversity

Pros

- entire organization is oriented around the mission - people are empathetic and talented, with many hundreds of years of combined domain expertise - opportunity to serve our military in the way they need it most - a great work from home opportunity while it lasted

Cons

- new CEO is implementing ideas that benefit him more than anyone else - under our new leadership, the USO is implementing a return to office policy that is setting back the organization years - we're a global organization that needs to be distributed and already figured out how to be successful, so the CEO's strategy makes little sense. - he's actually asking people to relocate from all over the world to D.C. so people can use Teams to talk to each other from within the same office instead of from our homes. cool. he's about as out of touch as the current administration, so maybe it'll all work out. - beyond the CEO, things can be slow to move across the organization. process can get in the way of impact. - back to leadership: how exactly are you ensuring the success of the org for the next 85 years? we are killing support for the field without giving them additional resources. make it make sense.
