Increasing responsibilities, decreased staff, decreased pay - Anonymous UPMC Employee Review

Pros

It's the top hospital in Pittsburgh, hands down. If you are looking to keep current on treatments, health management, etc this is one of the hospitals to be employed at in Pittsburgh. Just make sure you're at your all time tip top shape for multi-tasking and working greater than 1 person's work.

Cons

As always parking-BAD-shuttle adds 30+ minutes to your 12 hour shift. Merit raises were cut several years ago to 2.5% (from 5%). Positions in neighboring departments are rumored to not be rehiring but redistributing the workload to current employees. My current area is steadily understaffed and management/upper management has told me that they are not considering hiring additional staff to help with workload. Suggestions are not welcomed, the only change you can count on is the increase of job duties for the same pay. Politics are alive and well at UPMC and here's hoping your friend is your manager.

Pros

Good benefits and generally good leadership

Cons

Typical large healthcare organization. Affordable care act ruined healthcare so its more about making money because it has become more of a business than care.

Pros

No pros. It was a horrible place to work

Cons

If you were night shift, you had to work every holiday. The nurses were so lazy and never helped us. We ran around taking care of patients with no help. Changing them, cleaning up horrible messes, taking them to the bathroom and doing vitals with no help. Nurses would sit there eating while on Facebook, while we did all the work. Some would even be sleeping!
