Pros

The pay is okay, and you get your stories published in a lot of newspapers and online sources. That's about it.

Cons

No breaks, no benefits, no taxes taken out of your check, no paid time off, no raises and a lot of bad editors in charge. You get paid once per month with a paper check sent in the mail. You will have to create an LLC, and you will be responsible for the full cost of Social Security and Medicare instead of just half when the employer takes the money out. You will need to buy your own unemployment insurance. Turnover is insanely fast, and they recently fired a lot of long-time and highly experienced journalists. Now, they seek more. Total insanity. And, because you don't get raises, inflation lessens your actual earnings every year. As someone wisely told me: Don't let UPI be your only source of income. Ultimately, it's best to get in and get out as soon as possible. The only people with job security are the same ones firing those who might one day replace them. The business model is pretty bad, too. It's only a matter of time before AI ends it.
