How it works is when you're hired, you're given a "mentor." You have this mentor the whole time that you work at UMC. But that person also has a mentor and it keeps going. The way you get promoted is you get more people on your "team" and you keep getting promoted and eventually you get to "own your own business" which is all well and good if you don't value having a social life or any free time at all. Once you're promoted to "CEO" you're basically at the office 24/7 and you do not have a day off. They are very secretive about the work days and hours (thurs-mon "10:30"-7) until AFTER you accept the position. (I put 10:30 in quotes because they expect you there basically by 8 or even before then "if you're serious about the job.") They also are very misleading in the interview process about the logistics of the position. They tell you they go to "big retailers" because that's where the best clientele are. No. What they really do is stand in a Walmart or Best Buy and bother the poor people who are just trying to shop for groceries or whatever and try to sell them cable. You're sent to a different Walmart each day, you never know where you're going until after you've arrived at the office, so good luck planning evening activities in advance. They send you as far as Fayetteville for the day and do not reimburse for gas. And if you don't sign up enough customers for 3 weeks in a row, you're fired. I've witnessed people create fake sales just so they could post something for the day, and then cover it up later. They preach about opportunity and growth, but the fact of the matter is the only way you get to grow in this company is if you dedicate every waking moment to the job, and also are okay with cheating the system.
All in all, this is basically a minimum wage job-- you're "guaranteed" 300$ a month for "gas and stuff" which no one can live on-- with absolutely NO BENEFITS and you lose your social life.
