Pros
Davis is a lovely town. I like being able to bike commute. The health insurance is good and the employee contribution is small. 15 days of paid vacation is nice.
Cons
HR is completely impossible to work with. They are 4 months late on a deadline and have not responded to numerous phone calls and emails from me and my supervisors. The career tracks system sounded like a good idea, but they have not responded to the reclassification requests. There is no maternity leave other than SDI. UC is exempt from the state maternity leave system, so I would get better maternity leave if I worked ANYWHERE else. The salaries are not competitive with the region, and they are doing very little to account for the rapidly increasing cost of living in the Sacramento area. There are no career development opportunities for staff who do research.
