Flexible hours, wide variety of subjects to cover

Didn't get to longer pieces until the end of my internship

Staff (especially fellow writers) are very welcoming, generous, and committed to helping new writers grow.

Staffing shortages (writers and editors) can create a hectic atmosphere, and leave the remaining staff with a lot on their plates. Pay is low. Assignments are catch-all, which is helpful to get a foot in the door, but can get boring/draining if you'd rather specialize in a topic.
