Pros

TMF has a great mission and awesome volunteers. The events are mostly fun and staff events always include tons of alcohol..... which isn’t actually a pro but it makes life bearable.

Cons

There’s a real snitch culture here. You get promoted by telling on your coworkers to leadership. Leadership tells it’s staff that they aren’t allowed to talk to each other about problems they’re having at work. And when you do, they reward their spies rather than try to fix the problem. Pay disparity is a real thing too. Leadership is not transparent about how much $ a position should make so you could end up making way more or way less than your peers. Men on this staff are sexist, obnoxious and inappropriate. And many women in leadership make excuses for them instead of addressing the issue. The positions are salaried so there’s no overtime, but they’ll have you working 25 days straight with no flex time to take off. A crap PTO policy AND crappy pay means the staff is burned out and over it.

Pros

Legitimate care and support from leadership Unlimited PTO policy One of the values is “failure is a bruise, not a tatoo” Get to work with a community of amazing veterans and survivors supported Passionate and talented group of folks - so many resources around you to learn from

Cons

Can struggle to maintain a good work life balance with all of the lanes of effort you balance but this is with any nonprofit. The support from colleagues was a big help. It was highly encouraged to take time for yourself to reset and refresh. There are also additional weeks that the entire team takes time off to spend with family and friends - that’s nice too.
