Pros
Pay is good among the industry. Benefits are good among the industry. People care about their work and will help you when approached. Business is flexible and able to adjust to market demands allowing for increased job security.
Cons
Favouritism among management. People promoted based on relationships with managers. Very low growth or development of current employees unless self driven and not always supported by managers unless you are part of the “in” group. Values are lost at the site level and talked about only when pushed by corporate. Rarely demonstrated or communicated unless done to hype personal achievements. Not always treated respectfully. Sometimes bullied or berated in meetings. Poor communication between departments when changes occur at a mill level and when corporate initiatives are rolled out. No “one on ones” or performance reviews. Year end review is submitted electronically and not discussed between managers and employees. Rare, if ever, do you receive positive feedback but negative feedback is brought up quickly and in any setting.
