Pros

There are worse places to work than Timken. Culture tends to be clique-ish, but there are a lot of honest, down to earth, hard working employees. The problems with the company are top-down, not bottom-up.

Cons

Senior managment in the Timken Company seem to promote people with a bullying manangment style. Turnover among recent hires (<5 years) is rediculously high. The entrenched old-boy network makes it very difficult for new talent to rise up in the company, so folks tend to put in a few years, enough to get a few bullets on a resume, then move on. The only people who seem to have any upward mobility are those hired directly into the Management Training Program. There is very little career development for any but this select group of people. Also, benefits, including bonuses and 401K matching have been cut back dramatically with the economic downturn. Mandatory furlough days further cut into salaries.
