Pros

Good office condition. Big name, maybe have benefit on your CV

Cons

Management & Performance Evaluation Lack of Decentralized Evaluation / Peer Review: Performance reviews are heavily top-down and determined primarily by managerial discretion, rather than a fair, decentralized peer-review system that accurately reflects day-to-day contributions. Vague Promotion and Grading Standards: The absence of a transparent engineering rubric or clear leveling matrix makes career progression feel arbitrary and unpredictable. Absence of Dual-Track Career Growth: The organizational structure lacks distinct, well-supported advancement paths for Individual Contributors (ICs) versus People Managers, forcing technical talent into management tracks. Engineering Philosophy & Workplace Friction Prioritizing Speed Over Code Quality: Technical best practices are routinely sacrificed to meet aggressive deadlines, resulting in tech debt, poor code readability, and compromised system scalability. Lack of Engineering Autonomy: Engineers are stripped of technical decision-making authority, often forced to execute top-down mandates without room for healthy architectural discussion. Result-Oriented Siloing (Lack of Meaningful Discussion): A counterproductive "delivery-first" mindset where teams are pressured to rush out minimum viable products without evaluating pros, cons, or alignment, often leading to wasted effort when the final product is ultimately rejected. Cultural Environment & Well-being Toxic Internal Competition and Office Politics: The workplace fosters a culture of constant internal friction, hyper-competition, and unnecessary bureaucratic infighting rather than collaborative problem-solving. Lack of Psychological Safety: The communication loop lacks empathy and constructive feedback, shifting the focus from solving technical problems to finger-pointing and blame. Poor Work-Life Balance (WLB): The high-pressure environment constantly encroaches on personal time, creating severe friction between demanding workloads and personal well-being.

Pros

Pay is level with industry and actual work is somewhat interesting depending on the team you're on

Cons

In my experience, career growth can feel very limited if you are not part of the dominant internal language and cultural network. A significant amount of important context, communication, and decision-making happens in Chinese, which can make non-Chinese-speaking employees feel excluded from key conversations and promotion opportunities. The environment did not feel as inclusive as it should be for a global company. Advancement often felt less tied to performance and more tied to whether you were connected to the right groups or able to operate fluently within the Chinese-speaking side of the organization. Over time, it felt like non-Chinese-speaking employees had fewer long-term career paths and were at risk of being replaced by people who could better fit that internal operating model. Things also move very slowly because employees are often given access only to the bare minimum needed to do their jobs. There is a heavy push toward using AI tools, but in practice it can make it harder to get help from real people. Instead of getting quick support, you often have to spend time going through AI bots or internal tools before getting a useful answer.
