Pros
The staff discount on the already cheap products was great
Cons
It says in the contract you may be expected to work longer hours and night shifts between November and Christmas day which will be agreed with you in advance What they mean is they force 2pm-11pm shifts on the staff they decide and ALL assistant managers from October to January, and if you don't like it, here's the door. There are rules saying you cannot take holiday or have two days off together in this time (because HR are all on holiday and don't have time to process the requests...according to a letter we received when the period was extended!!!) As managers we all expect to work above our contract for the need of the business where necessary.... HOWEVER if you work at Tiger this means you will be paid for 37 hours a week and work at LEAST 50. You will be promised this time back but never see it. Again if you don't like it here's the door. Your'e on the shop floor crying with exhaustion at 4am having done a 15 hour shift on your ninth day in a row and you will still be accused of not pulling your weight. I was called repeatedly by the store whilst I was at a day off for a family funeral. I was offered things and then lied to about the conditions attached to them. Nothing was ever good enough no matter how many hours you worked, how hard you tried, no-one in higher management could make their mind up about how they wanted things and it was your fault for not being psychic when you didn't know it had changed overnight with no communication. Oh yes and here's the best bit. Stock that was running low on the shopfloor got thrown out if it couldn't be ordered immediately. The staff could take it and it could be donated to charity....but the amount of stuff thrown away was criminal. I wish someone would take a watchdog camera into the place...I'm talking hundreds of pounds a week in each store. I cannot speculate on whether or not this practice takes place since I have left but I was there over two years and saw thousands of pounds worth of product go to landfill. Disgusting. There's a review on here by an ex contractor who I am pretty sure I met and worked with, because his comments are spot on and he would have witnessed some of the behaviours he says he experienced at our store! In fact all the comments here that say worked like a slave, not appreciated, favouritism playing a massive part in progression, bullying, and grievances ignored are ALL SPOT ON. If you complain or whistle-blow when being mistreated, forget being taken seriously, you're more likely to be managed out. I wish I didn't just sound like a bitter ex employee but I have never been treated SO poorly by line managers in my life and the damage they did to some people I saw there was horrendous. Basically if you sleep with half of head office, you can do what you want and all your staff are lying... Staff turnover is huge Staff illness due to stress is huge Staff training and support is non existent Staff being fired for questionable things or for speaking up against bullying Why in the heck would you want to work here? Some comments maybe can be dismissed , most retail businesses will not let you take time off over Christmas, (HOWEVER Tiger's approach IS the worst I have ever seen) And actually, cleaning is usually a part of working in retail, only large companies pay store cleaners, Ive been in retail over twenty years and only had the luxury of a cleaner in one store, so that's not really a fair comment and in our store EVERYONE mucked in with the toilet, management or otherwise. HOWEVER most of the rest of the comments...yes....sadly ARE a representation of the awful conditions at Tiger. We were told once in our store the reason we were struggling to hire was because our area didn't have "enough foreign people willing to work their butts off for nothing" Enough said.
