Pros

It's amazing to work at a company where, in your first month, you are trusted and encouraged to contribute meaningfully. The onboarding process really gave me insight into how I could communicate with my colleagues, take risks, and provide and receive feedback. We use our own software a lot, which has helped me both personally and professionally. From a personal standpoint, it means a lot to me to be able to share my voice and to work for a company that creates the opportunity for people from all backgrounds, ages, genders, personalities, and social classes to share their voices, too. Professionally, I've learned that there is no excuse to make an assumption about what a group of people want or need... the Te app allows me to create processes in my role that are meaningful to the end user, which allows me to learn and grow in my field. Also, work-life integration is amazing here. I am based in Vancouver, but that doesn't mean I need to work at the office. I can choose to work from home, take a morning off to go skiing, grab a seat at WeWork in Shanghai, or fly to Mexico and work from the beach. I love thinking about the wanderlust opportunities I can create for myself while still working in my chosen profession.

Cons

One of our cultural tenants at Te is: "Do the right thing," which is part of the overall cultural statement: "Do, Ask, Learn." The ability to Do and then Ask is well supported in the company, but sometimes the "Learn" component is hard for me. I find it has taken a lot of "unlearning" on my part to practice learning from my mistakes rather than feeling defeated by them. Overall, this is a good thing, but I'm placing it in the Cons section as it has been, and still is, a challenge from time to time.

Pros

The work-at-home approach seems ideal. The permanent staff are very supportive and helpful. The company paid for gatherings to foster better personal connections.

Cons

They treat new hires a bit frivolously. After being told for six months that I was doing good work, I was laid off with about a week's notice. Within a month, three other employees were let go in the same fashion. While the company's online engagement process has attracted an exceptionally high initial participation level for their clients, the follow-up engagement levels drop dramatically (usually over 50%). If participants felt that the initial engagement was authentic, participation should rise not drop. This suggests some vulnerability in the company's business model.
