Pros

Compassionate and respectful treatment of animals. Additionally, staff can bring their own pets to work. The facility handles a large number of cases.

Cons

The workplace culture is characterized by blame, shame, and widespread gossip, particularly directed at first opinion vets/veterinary interns. Despite HR’s frequent discussions about mental health, there is a lack of effective measures to ensure employee well-being. The environment can be passive-aggressive, with a focus on handling a high volume of cases at the expense of staff mental health. Financial pressures of the hospital are heavily placed on employees, leading to interns working up to 17-hour shifts, often handling non-emergencies at shift’s end. Interns frequently perform nursing duties and their concerns are often disregarded. Research opportunities are exclusively reserved for residents.
