Pros
- Lots of respect to manage your time as an employee, very flexible - Many interesting projects available and lots of routes to fund interesting ideas for projects made available - Defiantly potential for the right people to have a meaningful impact. - Everyone is very nice to each other and low stress environment.
Cons
- IT systems are massively mis managed, combined with tight security makes doing IT projects like swimming through treacle. - Business processes highly inefficient and suck up engineers time. - Culture of being busy on meaningless and easy work. Walk into the office and you’ll see outlook, PowerPoint and word on everyone’s monitor, rarely will you see people with a code editor, 3d modelling or simulation software, and even more rarely will you see people doing hands on work with tools or machines. - Management enforce this last point by setting out work that does not require anything to actually be delivered, feels like the bare minimum is done to get grant money. - The lack of challenging work stops people developing skills and gradually get worse at challenging work.
